American Institute of Physics: THE WORST!!!! Are the physicists at the American Institute of Physics just Al Gore zombies too?

Are the physicists at the American Institute of Physics just Al Gore zombies too?
http://www.aip.org/gov/policy12.html

Or, is it just that Y/A has a lot of anti-science extremists that deny the prevailing scientific opinion?

First...if you're prepared to accept something as fact because it is the "prevailing" scientific opinion...then you are not a scientist. To be a real scientist you need to base your opinions on provable data, not on what all the cool kids are doing. In the early 1900's the "prevailing" scientific opinion believed that you could tell if someone would be a violent criminal later in life based on the bumps on their heads. Also remember, that up to WWII, most prominent scientists believed in Eugenics. So I don't think you really want to tie yourself to the "prevailing" scientific opinion.I know a number of people who belong to the AGU that do not accept the AGW theory. Just like any organization, the very loud people, even if they are not the majority, tend to be what gets heard. I cannot say for sure, but it would not surprise me if the authors of the AGW support paper for the AGU where a minority that is well placed at the top of the organization.

I come on this site once or twice a month. Every time I do I see that you have a number of posts that are all along the vein of "If you don't agree with me you're stupid". At the end of that you still call me presumptuous...well, give me something else to base my estimation on.

ABOUT IEEE SPAM

ABOUT IEEE SPAM
---------------

(1) The IEEE constructs their mailing lists using crude data-mining
techniques that result in mailings to inappropriate people as well as
multiple mailings to people with multiple addresses (Every time they send
out a round of spam, I tend to get 6-8 copies of IEEE SPAM, at various addresses,
old and new).

(2) The IEEE don't use an opt-in -- which would mean a 1-time mailing and no
further mailings if the recipient does not respond. They use an opt- out,
which means the recipient has to take the trouble to reply to ask not to be
emailed further. This is the IEEE!

(3) Nor is the opt-out a URL on which you click once and there's an end to
it (although that too is risky, as it can simply be a confirmation to a mass
spam-sharing network that they have reached a "live" email address).

(4) Instead the opt-out requires emailing to an address they give. For me,
this means emailing them repeatedly, and having to research the email
headers to figure out which addresses they were sending to. As some of them
are now just forwarding addresses from old email addresses of mine, it means
I can't mail back directly from them, and the IEEE software will not recognize
an opt-out as originating from them, and it will keep spamming me.
This is too bad for the name of IEEE.

(5) But even when I opt-out from a current, valid email address that they
have spammed, all their spamware does is turn around the list and spam me
yet again. It is a shame for IEEE.
(I proved this when I sent you the spam with the header that had
said "Remove me from this IEEE spam list": I got yet another IEEE "invitation,"
with that header as the subject!

(6) Their messages just keep getting longer and more frequent, as they
concatenate older messages onto newer ones from IEEE.

(7) Most people are simply using their own spam-filters to filter them out
-- which proves, again, that they are simply spammers, exactly like the
viagra and porn ads.

(8) I cannot spam-filter them on my end, because my mail is on the
university's server, and the university's own central filter is doing the
filtering. Moreover, as my email is forwarded from other addresses, the
"From" address is often my own old address, and if I spam-filtered that, I
would not be able to forward any more of my old address mail.

(9) It is clear that in order to save themselves time and money, IEEE is
causing enormous time-wasting and inconvenience to multitudes of spammees,
exactly like direct telephone-spamming, with a tape on the other end, so all
you can do is keep picking up the phone and hanging up, but you cannot
escape (and in principle, if the spammers became numerous enough, you'd
depend all your waking hours picking up and hanging up your phone).

(10) For heavy email users like me, this email-spamming is approaching the
intrusiveness level of phone-spamming. With viagra and porn, based offshore
in China or Kuala Lumpur, there's not much an individual can
do: It's up to the regulators and service providers to find a solution
(probably being more rigorous about identity verification and levying
penalties). But IEEE pretends to be academics, so they can and should be
named and shamed, to alert their targets to their intrusive abusive
practices: That will put their clientele at risk, as it should, and force
them to change to a non-intrusive, non-abusive form of communication that
may cost them more money, but will save the rest of us a lot of agony, as it
should.

You may both quote and post me on all of this (but not my email address!).
